My wife and I purchased a home on 3.25 acres last year. The front acre or so is very manageable with my John Deere 116. I can't say the same for the rest of the land. It's very level, but it has a good deal of growth on it, and the previous owners had someone come in a couple of years ago with a dozer and push trees (and all the topsoil) into a huge pile near the back of the property. The part I can actually walk is grown up with small to medium sized Mimosas.I want to start looking at used utility tractors, but I can't afford to spend a great deal on one. I *think* that what I want is a 40-50 hp tractor with a bush hog, a front blade, and a plow (knock it down, plow it under, and then keep it cut).Is this size tractor going to be big enough, or do I need more power?I know for my price range, I'm going to be looking at older tractors, but I understand that a good one will run forever if it's well maintained.Thanks in advance for the help!

Last summer I purchased a Model 116 Tractor. I have really enjoyed using it, and it is almost perfect for the 1.5 acres I cut regularly. I am curious as to the extensibility of this tractor.Does anyone have a list of the options which were available for the 116 in 1985 and which attachments can be used with it? It has a 38" deck now, and I know that it can use a 46" deck and a 42" front blade.Anybody know what else I can do with it?

I just picked up a JD 116 in good condition. I know it's a good tractor, but I would like to find some documentation on this model. Does anyone know where I can get a copy/reprint of the manual, or is there somewhere on the WWW I can go to get info?

I have just purchased a home on about 3 acres in Central Alabama. This is the first time since I was a teenager I have needed more than a push mower. I know from personal experience and reputation that John Deere and Cub Cadet have been traditionally good lawn tractors.<br>I have heard however that the Sabre line of JD mowers is not up to their reputation, and that the Cub Cadet name now belongs to MTD, who I know makes the cheapo mowers I could buy at a chain store. I have about $1000 to spend, but I would rather buy a well maintained used mower if I can't get a quality new one for that price.<br>Should I be considering any other manufacturers, and/or are my thoughts on the models above justified? If not, PLEASE correct me, as I want a mower I can maintain and use for years.<br>Thanks for any help you can give!
